 Jagdish Sheth, Prof. of Marketing, Emory University

Dr. Jagdish (Jag) N. Sheth is the Charles H. Kellstadt Professor of Marketing in the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. Prior to his present position, he was at the University of Southern California (7 years); at the University of Illinois (15 years), and on the faculty of Columbia University (5 years), as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2 years). Dr. Sheth is well known for his scholarly contributions in consumer behavior, relationship marketing, competitive strategy and geopolitical analysis. Professor Sheth is highly sought out as a keynote speaker at many industries, academic and public forums. He has worked for numerous industries and companies in the United States, Europe and Asia, both as an Advisor and as a Seminar Leader. His clients include AT&T, BellSouth, Cox Communications, Delta, Ernst & Young, Ford, GE, Lucent Technologies, Motorola, Nortel, Pillsbury, Sprint, Square D, 3M, Whirlpool, Wipro and many more. He has offered more than a thousand presentations in at least twenty countries. Dr. Sheth is frequently quoted and interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Fortune, Financial Times, Economic Times and radio shows and television networks such as CNN, CNBC (India) and BBC. He is also on the Board of Directors of several public companies including Cryo Cell International (NASDAQ), Wipro Limited (NYSE) and Shasun Chemicals.

In 1989, Dr. Sheth was given the Outstanding Marketing Educator award by the Academy of Marketing Science. In 1991 and again in 1999, he was given the Outstanding Educator Award by the Sales and Marketing Executives International (SMEI). Dr. Sheth was also awarded the P.D. Converse Award for his outstanding contributions to theory in marketing in 1992 by the American Marketing Association. In 1996, Dr. Sheth was selected as the Distinguished Fellow of the Academy of Marketing Science. In 1997, Dr. Sheth was awarded the Distinguished Fellow award from the International Engineering Consortium. Dr. Sheth is also a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA). 2004 marked a stellar year for Dr. Sheth as he was awarded both the Richard D. Irwin Distinguished Marketing Educator and the Charles Coolidge Parlin Awards which are the two highest awards given by the American Marketing Association. A prolific author, in 2000 Dr. Sheth and Andrew Sobel published a best seller, Clients for Life (Simon & Schuster). His book, The Rule of Three (Free Press), coauthored with Dr. Rajendra Sisodia, altered the current notions on competition in business. It was published in 2002 and has been translated into German, Italian, Polish Japanese and Chinese. It was the subject of a seven part television series by CNBC (India) and was a finalist for the 2004 Best Marketing Book Award from the American Marketing Association. His most recent book, Tectonic Shift: The Geoeconomic Realignment of Globalizing Markets was published in 2006 by Sage (India). He is also under contract for The Seven Bad Habits of Good Companies, Firms of Endearment and The Rule of Three in India.

 Dr. Robert Califf, MD, VC, Clinical Research & Medicine Division- Cardiology, Duke University

Robert M. Califf, MD, is vice chancellor for clinical research and professor of medicine in the Division of Cardiology at Duke. Former director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute, he became head of the Duke Translational Medicine Institute in 2006. A native of South Carolina, Califf graduated from Duke University, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, in 1973 and from the Duke University School of Medicine in 1978, where he was selected for Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his internship and residency at the University of California at San Francisco and his fellowship in cardiology at Duke University. He is board-certified in internal medicine (1984) and cardiology (1986) and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (1988). Califf has served as an editor for the first and second editions of the landmark textbook, Acute Coronary Care, published by Mosby Inc., and is the editor in chief of Mosby's American Heart Journal. He is a section editor for the Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine and has been an author or coauthor of more than 600 peer-reviewed journal articles. He is a contributing editor for theheart.org, an online information resource for academic and practicing cardiologists. Califf has led the DCRI efforts for many of the best-known clinical trials in cardiovascular disease. Califf has served on the Cardiorenal Advisory Panel of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Pharmaceutical Roundtable of the Institute of Medicine (IOM). He also served on the IOM Committee that recommended Medicare coverage of clinical trials, which Congress recently approved. He is director of coordinating center for the Centers for Education & Research on Therapeutics™ (CERTs), a public-private partnership among the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the DCRI, academia, the medical products industry, and consumer groups. This partnership focuses on research and education that will advance the best use of medical products.

 Dr. Michael H. Merson, Director, Duke Global Health Institute, Duke University

From 1978 until 1995, Merson worked for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Merson was director of the Diarrheal Diseases Control Program for 10 years and then served as director of the Acute Respiratory Infections Control Program from 1987 to 1990. From 1990 to 1995, he headed the worldwide effort to control the AIDS epidemic as director of the WHO's Global Program on AIDS. In 1995, Merson joined the Yale School of Medicine as dean of Public Health. He currently is director and principal investigator of Yale's Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS, which undertakes research, training and evaluation projects in some 20 countries. Merson has authored more than 175 articles and is senior editor of International Public Health, the first textbook prepared on the subject. More recently, he has written on global AIDS policy issues, his current major area of interest. Merson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Amherst College and his medical degree at the State University of New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn. After completing his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital, he supervised the medical ward aboard the hospital ship USS Hope in northeast Brazil. He then spent three years working for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where he was promoted to chief medical epidemiologist at the Cholera Research Laboratory in Bangladesh.

 Kanwal Rekhi, Managing Partner, Inventus Capital Partners

Kanwal is a managing partner in Inventus Capital Partners, a Silicon valley based cross border, US/India early stage technology venture capital fund. He was one of the founder of TiE SV and its president for 5 years. He is also a past Chairman of Board of Trustees, TiE. Kanwal was the founders of Excelan, a computer networking company in 1982. In 1985 he was named President and CEO of the company. Excelan went public on the NASDAQ in 1987 and merged with Novell in 1989. Kanwal stayed with and joined the Board of Directors of Novell and was named an executive vice-president and the Chief Technology Officer of the company. Kanwal retired from Novell in 1995. Kanwal also served as the CEO of CyberMedia, Inc. from March 1998 till Sept 1998. Kanwal was named Entrepreneur of the Year in 1987 by the Arthur-Young/Venture magazine. In 1994, Kanwal was named to the Board of advisor to the President of Michigan Tech. Kanwal was honored with a Doctorate in 1997 in Business and Engineering from Michigan Tech. In the past he has been involved with over 50 start-ups in the Silicon Valley, including Exodus Communications, CyberMedia, Apptivity, Zietnet, PlaceWare, HealthAtoA NexTag Ambit Design, Versata, Instantis and Sierra-Atlantic. Kanwal is also on the board of Community Foundation of the Silicon Valley. Kanwal is actively focused on helping young entrepreneurs get started. He is currently involved at the board level in Sierra Atlantic, Ensim, Kaboodle and Instantis.

 Dr. Naresh Trehan, Cardiovascular Surgeon

Dr. Naresh Trehan after training in general surgery and subsequently cardiac surgery at premier institutions in U.S. (NYU Medical Centre), held important academic and clinical positions at the New York University Medical Center, Bellevue Hospital of the city of New York and Veterans Administration Hospital (Manhattan), U.S.A. His pioneering work in the field of coronary artery bypass surgery was at the New York University Medical Centre, New York, USA. In 1988, despite a successful career in United States he returned to India and started Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre - a pioneering state-of-the-art heart institute in India. Within a short period this Centre became an important land mark the world over in cardiac surgery and cardiology having successfully performed over 48,000 open heart surgeries which includes surgeries of coronary artery, valves, carotid arteries, aortic aneurysm, cardiomyoplasty, cardiac arrhythmias, myocardial total arterial revascularization, transmyocardial laser revascularisation, least invasive coronary artery surgery on a beating heart, reduction ventriculoplasty (Batista Operation), heart port access surgery and robotically assisted cardiac surgery with excellent results. Some of these operations have been performed by Dr. Trehan for the first time in India. Besides clinical work Dr Trehan has taken keen interest in training, education and research programmes. He is giving post doctoral training of international standard to 30 surgeons at a point of time, The training is of 3 years duration. Over 20 surgeons have already been trained so far. Dr Trehan has also presented a number of scientific papers and chaired scientific sessions in national and international conferences in USA, UK, Japan, China, Israel and Far East countries.
